iNexus Inc. / 株式会社インネクサス (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Directors: Rikiei Watanabe and Zhenbin Zhang; hereinafter “iNexus”), an EdTech startup operating a STEM+C[*] education platform, is pleased to announce that it will continue the joint research with Professor Hitoshi Sasaki of Takushoku University that began in 2023, adding a new framework: “Research on the Aspects of Group Learning Using Tangible Learning Materials.”
Since welcoming Professor Sasaki to our advisory board as an “Educational Technology Advisor” in June 2023, iNexus has conducted joint research on methods for capturing changes in children’s motivation to learn and the points where they get stuck, and on how to support their learning. The results have been presented at academic conferences as field practice using the programming learning app “Manande Puzzle.”

Our research so far has shown that, in addition to working on their own, the moments when children show one another how they solved a problem and share what they found help them keep on learning.
In this joint research, which forms the new framework, we will use learning materials that children can touch and manipulate with their hands, like building blocks (tangible learning materials), and examine in detail what kinds of interaction arise when children think, talk and learn together in groups. Rather than testing the performance of the materials, we will analyze the learning activities themselves to explore materials and lessons that support collaborative learning.
[*] What is STEM+C? To “STEM” — the initials of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics — are added the “4 Cs” advocated as essential in the 21st century: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication. To these, iNexus adds Contact — the hands-on, experiential learning we especially value — for a new educational approach built on five “+C”s.
