iNexus Inc. and Ochanomizu University Jointly File a Patent for Educational Methods and Materials for Intellectual Development from Early Childhood

— Establishing intellectual property that opens new possibilities for STEM+C** education —

iNexus Inc. / 株式会社インネクサス (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Directors: Rikiei Watanabe and Zhenbin Zhang; hereinafter “iNexus”), an EdTech startup operating a STEM+C** education platform, is pleased to announce that, jointly with National University Corporation Ochanomizu University (location: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasuko Sasaki; hereinafter “Ochanomizu University”), it has completed a patent application (Application No.: Japanese Patent Application No. 2025-137342) for an innovative technology relating to teaching materials for intellectual development in early childhood.

This patent application is a result of joint research with the Institute for Science & Education (ISE) of Ochanomizu University, and the findings are scheduled to be presented at an academic conference in October 2025.

Background and Significance

In today’s society, creative thinking, logical thinking, and the ability to collaborate are regarded as indispensable elements of education from early childhood. This patent goes beyond the mere development of teaching materials: it is intellectual property concerning a new approach to systematically designing and applying educational methods and materials for intellectual development in line with a child’s stage of growth.

By combining iNexus’s practical expertise in the EdTech field with the academic research achievements of Ochanomizu University, we aim to establish intellectual-development solutions that offer both high practical value in educational settings and solid academic grounding.

iNexus is on a mission to advance “STEM+C” education—adding to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) the “4 Cs” of Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication, and further adding Contact, which symbolizes the hands-on, experiential learning we especially value, for a total of five “+C”s. This patent is an important step toward giving concrete form to that philosophy.

Future Outlook

Building on this patent, iNexus and Ochanomizu University will develop systematic educational solutions from both angles of educational methods and teaching materials for intellectual development, and roll them out to educational settings in Japan and abroad. Furthermore, through industry–academia collaboration, we will accelerate the social implementation of educational innovation and expand the potential of the children who will shape the future.

**What is STEM+C? To “STEM” — the initials of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics — are added the “4 Cs” advocated as essential in the 21st century: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication. To these, iNexus adds Contact — the hands-on, experiential learning we especially value — for a new educational approach built on five “+C”s.
